CHAPEL HILL – The University of North Carolina has hired Nicki Moore, an 11-year member of the University of Oklahoma's athletics leadership team, as a senior associate athletics director, UNC director of athletics Bubba Cunningham announced today.
Moore is currently in her third year as the Sooners' senior associate AD for student life and strategic planning and the senior woman administrator. She oversees sports medicine, strength and conditioning, psychological resources, housing and dining, sports nutrition and gender equity, is the sport administrator for seven teams and has overseen several capital projects.
Moore also supervises OU's Student-Athlete Development program, which includes a leadership academy, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and the Bridge Builders Multicultural Student-Athlete Program, and orientation programs. She serves on numerous campus committees and is the athletic department's liaison to the business school and the Department of Higher Education Administration. She is also a member of the NCAA Committee for Institutional Performance and serves on the NCAA task force on student-athlete mental health. From 2010-12, she managed academic advising for student-athletes and she has led the department's strategic planning processes since 2006.
Moore is a 1996 graduate of the University of Missouri, where she was a four-time captain on the track and field and cross country teams. She was a three-time conference champion, an Academic All-America, qualified for the NCAA Championships twice and earned silver medals at the USA Outdoor Junior Nationals and the Junior Pan Am Games. She earned post-graduate scholarships from both the NCAA and the Big 12 Conference.
She earned a master's degree in counseling psychology in 1998 and a doctorate in philosophy in 2002, both from Missouri. Her Ph.D. is in counseling psychology with an emphasis in sport psychology.
Moore will also serve as UNC's senior woman administrator. Beth Miller has held that role since 1981 and is retiring at the end of June.
“Nicki has been part of an outstanding leadership team at the University of Oklahoma,” says Cunningham. “She has a strong background in programs that focus on improving the total student-athlete experience, including academics and counseling. As a former college athlete, team captain, professor and athletic administrator, she understands how we can best support our students in various aspects of college life. We are delighted that she is joining our UNC family.”
