Tar Heel Men's Golf Trio Aces Academic All-ACC Team
June 25, 2015 | Men's Golf
University of North Carolina sophomore Carter Jenkins and freshmen Ben Griffin and William Register were named to the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Golf All-Academic team.
Griffin is one of five players named to the academic team who also earned All-ACC honors this year.
Also Thursday, Griffin was named an honorable mention PING All-America by the Golf Coaches Association of America. He led the Tar Heels with a 71.06 stroke average in a dozen events and posted eight Top 10 finishes.
Griffin (Chapel Hill) and Register (Burlington) each won a pair of tournaments as freshmen. Jenkins (Raleigh) had the third-best stroke average on the team behind only Griffin and Register and last week won the North Carolina Amateur.
“This was a fantastic year academically for our golf program,” says head coach Andrew Sapp. “It's truly an honor for Ben, William and Carter to receive this award. I am so proud of our entire team's efforts in the classroom and on the golf course.”
Only one school had more players on the ACC's All-Academic team than Carolina.
