UNC Buries No. 9 Aggies 4-0

CHAPEL HILL—In a rigorous top-10 matchup, the fifth-ranked North Carolina women's tennis team beat the No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies 4-0 Sunday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay, the second-ranked duo in the country, took down Rachel Pierson and Eva Paalma 6-0. The duo broke the Aggies three times with two straight aces from Kay on her last serve to take the first match.
Ashley Dai and Chloe Ouellet-Pizer took the early 5-0 lead over Domenica Gonzalez and Saska Gavrilovska, but the Aggies saved three match points to break Ouellet-Pizer at 5-1. The duo fought back, however, to win the match 6-1 and seal the doubles point for the Heels.
In singles, No. 112 Ouellet-Pizer was the first to finish for the Tar Heels with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Ines Deheza to put Carolina up 2-0.
No. 88 Kay battled No. 58 Pierson in the first set 6-3 before easily downing her in the second set 6-1 to put the Tar Heels one point away from the win.
Marika Akkerman clinched the victory for Carolina with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Domenica Gonzalez.
The Tar Heels head to Madison, Wisc. on Friday for their title defense at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
