No. 1 Hayley Carter clinched the match for North Carolina (15-2, 5-0 ACC) with a 6-2, 6-2, win over No. 50 Kimmy Guerin.
48th-ranked Jessie Aney got the singles parade underway with a victory over Joanna Zalewski on court three. After a 6-2 first-set win, Zalewski retired from the match trailing 3-0 in the second.
Marika Akkerman also won 6-0, 6-1 over Xue Zhang.
In doubles, top ranked Carter and senior Whitney Kay won 6-2 on court one, and senior Ashley Dai and freshman Chloe Ouellet-Pizer did the same on court three to secure the opening doubles point for the Tar Heels.
After the match was clinched, No. 29 Whitney Kay overcame an early first-set deficit to post a straight set win on court two. Ouellet-Pizer won her match on court five, and senior Kate Vialle outlasted Samantha Asch on court four in three sets to make it a clean 7-0 sweep of the Deacs, who fall to 12-3, 2-2.
Carolina heads to Puerto Rico during spring break next week. The Tar Heels are scheduled to face Dennison University and Navy on Tuesday, March 15 at 9 a.m., and 3 p.m., respectively.
