Boyden Earns ITA Academic Honor
July 22, 2016 | Men's Tennis, Academics
Blaine Boyden, a rising sophomore on the UNC men's tennis team, has been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the awards on Thursday.
The ITA honor requires at least a 3.5 grade point average and is open to varsity letterwinners who have been at their school for at least two semesters.
Boyden is from Raleigh, N.C., and as a freshman was part of the finest season in Carolina men's tennis history. In 2016, the Tar Heels set a school record for wins (28), won the program's first national title (ITA National Indoor Team Championship) and were ranked No. 1 in the nation for the first time ever.
In his first year of collegiate tennis, Boyden went 15-8 overall and 11-4 in dual matches during the spring, playing mostly at the No. 6 spot. He has a 10-7 career record in doubles.
