#TarHeel25: No. 9
July 8, 2016 | Men's Tennis
Once again this July, GoHeels.com will count down the top 25 wins of the school year. Check back around noon EDT each weekday for the latest update before No. 1 is revealed on July 20.
No. 9: No. 1 Carolina 4, No. 3 Virginia 3 - Men's Tennis, April 1, 2016
Carolina's win over Virginia at the ITA National Indoor Championships was an incredible acheivement for the 2016 team as well as the program as a whole (more on this later in the countdown). But the Tar Heels' thrilling 4-3 win over the Cavaliers on April 1 was also incredibly noteworthy.
The Wahoos, who went on to claim the NCAA team title in May, have been as dominant in ACC play as the Carolina women's soccer teams of the 80's, 90's and 2000's. They entered Chapel Hill having not lost a conference regular season dual since April 14, 2006, a run two weeks shy of a full decade. But behind singles victories from Robert Kelly, Anu Kodali and the clincher from Brayden Schnur, Carolina picked up its first homecourt victory over Virginia since 2006.
After the match, Schnur gave credit to the rowdy crowd of 500-plus for energizing the Tar Heels. “I thought the crowd was the biggest factor ," he said. "That was the biggest crowd we've had, at least since I've been here, and that played a huge role in today's win."
