Carter Begins Senior Year Ranked No. 1

Conversely, freshman Sara Daavettila begins her Carolina career at the top of the Newcomer/Freshman rankings from the ITA.
Last season, Carter became the first women's player since Nicole Gibbs of Stanford in 2012 to simultaneously hold the No. 1 ranking in singles and doubles. She closed out her junior campaign ranked No. 2 in singles after reaching the NCAA Singles Championship match, and No. 3 in doubles alongside playing partner Whitney Kay.
Carter was 49-5 in singles as a junior, and owns a 130-22 career record.
Sophomore Jessie Aney is 31st in the preseason singles rankings. The third team ACC performer notched a 35-8 record during her impressive freshman campaign last year.
In doubles, Carter and Aney check in tied for 14th. They enjoyed a 1-0 record playing together in a victory over UNCG last season.
North Carolina opens the fall season at the Bonk Invitational hosted by Duke University this Friday through Sunday, Sept. 16-18 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
