
Alcorta & Ilse Finish Top-5 At Penn State National

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Caroline Alcorta and Morgan Ilse finished four-five out of 177 runners in the Penn State National Friday. Both had 6k personal bests on the day with Alcorta finishing in 20:26 and Ilse right behind in 20:29. They led the University of North Carolina women's cross country team to a 9th-place finish out of 17 teams. The men's squad also finished 9th out of 14 teams.Â
In the final regular-season meet, both Alcorta and Ilse look to be nearing peak form just two weeks out of the ACC Championships. This was Ilse's second-straight top-10 finish in a nationally-competitive meet, and Alcorta is looking to be in the best shape of her career since finishing All-ACC and All-Region in 2015.Â
Mady Clahane was the third finisher for the Tar Heels in 60th with a time of 21:40. Erin Edmundson finished 86th in 22:01 and Blake Dodge rounded out the scoring in 116th with a time of 22:01. Casey Greenwalt finished 132nd in 22:42, and Ashley Smith finished 145th in 23:06.
Jeremy Brown was the top finisher for the men in 32nd with a time of 26:11. Matt Thornton finished 38th in 26:17, Mark Myers finished 43rd in 26:24, Mitch Resor finished 61st in 26:40 and Logan Carroll rounded out the scoring in 68th with a time of 26:49. Brodie Modini finished 80th in 27:04, Jake McEneaney finished 86th in 27:08, Luke Peterson finished 115th in 28:02 and Carl Geiger finished 117th in 28:12.
No. 10 Penn State won the women's race with 44 points, and No. 9 Oklahoma State won the men's race with 45 points
Next Up: The Tar Heels head back to Louisville, Ky., for the second time this season for the ACC Cross Country Championships on October 27th.Â
