Cloots, O'Donnell Advance in LPGA Qualifying

VENICE, Calif. - Former Tar Heels Leslie Cloots and Catherine O'Donnell moved one step closer to gaining LPGA Tour status Sunday as they finished in the top-80 players in Stage II of the LPGA and Symetra Qualifying School to advance to the final stage.
Cloots shot 2-under-par 70 Sunday to complete the four-round tournament held at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Calif., at 2-over-par 290 and in a tie for 40th. Catherine O'Donnell shot 3-over-par 291 to wrap up the weekend in a tie for 46th.Â
Both players have been competing on the Symetra Tour since moving on from Carolina - Cloots since graduating in May and O'Donnell since 2013. They are now attempting to take the next step on the LPGA Tour. The top-20 finishers at the Final State of the LPGA Qualifying School, held Nov. 27-Dec. 3 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., will earn LPGA Tour Membership.Â
Cloots, O'Donnell and Maia Schechter all received 2017 Symetra Tour status with the completion of 72 holes this weekend.Â
