Tar Heels Up to Ninth at Tavistock

Montaño Closes with Final Round 68
Tar Heel senior Jose Montaño shot a 4-under-par 68 and North Carolina posted the second-best team score of the final round to improve to ninth place at the Tavistock College Invitational.

Carolina shot 4-under 284 on Tuesday at the Isleworth Country Club to move up two spots on the leader board. The 284 was second only to Vanderbilt's final round 285 and was the fourth-best team round in the three-day tournament.

California finished at 6-under and rallied for a one-shot win over Illinois and Florida. Illinois' Dylan shot 11 under to win medalist honors by two strokes.

UNC finished the 54 holes at 12-over 876.

Montaño's 68 was Carolina's best round of the tournament and tied for the third-lowest score of the final round. He finished tied for 31st at 4 over.

Preyer Fountain and William Register tied for 27th place at 3 over. Register had a final-round 71 and Fountain closed with a 72.

Griffin also finished in a tie for 31st at 4 over and Austin Hitt tied for 60th at 10 over.

Carolina concludes its fall schedule on Oct. 28-29 in Greensboro at the UNCG Grandover Collegiate at the Grandover Resort.
