February 14, 2017 | Track & Field
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – On Tuesday afternoon, the ACC announced its weekly honors following the conclusion of the fifth week of competition for the 2017 indoor season. Sophomore Nicole Greene was named the ACC Women's Field Performer of the Week for the second consecutive week. This is her third honor during the 2017 season, as she also earned the award on Jan. 24 following the Notre Dame Invite.
Greene had a phenomenal performance at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational on Saturday afternoon, as she won the high jump competition for the fourth consecutive meet. She cleared 6' ¾” (1.85m) for the second time this season, which is just 0.02m off of her PR in the event. Greene beat out Jeanelle Scheper, who won the 2015 NCAA Championship in the high jump and represented St. Lucia at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Greene is currently tied for No. 1 in the ACC with Eleonora Omoregie of Florida State and is tied for sixth in the NCAA along with five other student-athletes.
Nathan Richartz of Notre Dame won the men's award after breaking his own school record by clearing 5.50m in the pole vault at the Tiger Paw Invitational. Miami senior Shakima Wimbley was named the ACC Women's Track Performer of the Week, while Florida State's Darryl Haraway won the men's award.
Greene, along with the rest of the North Carolina track and field teams, will return to competition this weekend for the UCS Invite in Winston-Salem, N.C., from Feb. 10-11 and the Kent Taylor Invite in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Feb. 12.
