#2 Carolina Blanks Red Raiders At USTA National Campus

In a showcase dual as part of the College MatchDay series supported by the USTA this season, the Tar Heels improved to 5-0 in 2017 with a win over Texas Tech in the first meeting between the two clubs since 2013.
The doubles point went to Carolina after Jessie Aney and Cassandra Vazquez won 6-4 over Sara Dvorak and Sabrina Federici in the deciding match on court two.
As the contest moved over to doubles, UNC grabbed ahold of the match with first-set victories in five of the six courts.
No. 5 Hayley Carter won her 144th career match at Carolina on court one, 6-1, 7-5, over No. 26 Gabriela Talaba, pushing Carolina ahead, 2-0, over the Red Raiders.
Freshman and No. 44 Alexa Graham turned back Alex Valenstein on court four, 6-3, 6-4, and classmate and third-ranked Sara Daavettila clinched the victory with a 6-4, 7-5, win over No. 81 Felicity Maltby on court two.
Carolina returns to the court next weekend - Feb. 10-13 - at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in New Haven, Conn. The Tar Heels have won the event in 2013 and 2015.
