May 24, 2017 | Men's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. – Although the NCAA team tournament has wrapped up, with UNC finishing as the national runner-up for the program's best showing ever, three Tar Heels remain in action at Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Senior Ronnie Schneider and freshman William Blumberg are competing in the singles bracket, and Blumberg and junior Robert Kelly are in the doubles bracket.
Schneider is in the singles draw for the fourth year in a row. Last season he earned All-America honors by reaching the Round of 16. He opens play Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., facing California's Florian Lakat. It will be the third meeting of the season for Schneider and Lakat, and the second in the past week. The two played last Thursday in the NCAA Sweet 16, with Schneider winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. They also met in February at the ITA National Team Indoors, where they were locked at 6-6 in the third set when Carolina clinched the match.
Blumberg also opens at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, facing Ohio State's JJ Wolf.
Doubles play starts Thursday, with Blumberg and Kelly set to face LSU's Justin Butsch and Jordan Daigle.
