UNC SPORTS PERFORMANCE MISSION STATEMENT
The University of North Carolina Sports Performance program consists of the Sports Medicine, Athletic Performance and Sports Nutrition departments. Its mission is to provide medical coverage optimizing health, safety and performance.SPORTS NUTRITION
The Performance Nutrition department has three full-time sports dietitians and two full-time performance nutrition fellows. We are passionate about utilizing evidence based, peer-reviewed research to provide the best, individualized care to our student athletes. This customized approach allows us to optimize recovery and performance as well as health and well-being. Nutrition services include:
- Individual nutrition counseling
- This includes, but is not limited to discussing performance goals, body composition, food allergies/intolerances, meal schedules and planning, digestive issues, vitamin & mineral deficiencies, disordered eating/eating disorders
- Body composition testing and education
- Performance lab testing
- Conduct hydration testing, vitamin and mineral deficiencies and more
- Menu development & meal planning assistance
- Dietary supplement review and education per NCAA rules & regulations
- Team education sessions
- Discuss nutrition-related habits that aid in optimizing performance on and off the field
- Fueling station
- Provide healthful and performance-focused fueling options pre and post training to optimize recovery and adaptations to training
