UNC SPORTS PERFORMANCE MISSION STATEMENT
The University of North Carolina Sports Performance program consists of the Sports Medicine, Athletic Performance and Sports Nutrition departments. Its mission is to provide medical coverage optimizing health, safety and performance.
ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE
The University of North Carolina's Strength & Conditioning staff is committed to enhancing the overall experience of its student-athletes. Program design is based on an athlete-centered, sport-appropriate model. Practical and purposeful training ensures each student-athlete will not only achieve long-term gains in athleticism for competitive success, but do so in an environment that cultivates enthusiasm, discipline, leadership, and teamwork.
OLYMPIC SPORT WEIGHT ROOM
The UNC Olympic Sport weight room is a state-of-the-art facility for use by Tar Heel student-athletes and located in the Loudermilk Center in the heart of campus.
Features include:
• A 17,000 sq foot functional space including deck.
• 50 yards of indoor turf, 50 yards of outdoor space for movement drills, plyometric work, flexibility sessions and sprint training.
• 22 Sorinex self-contained racks with connector bridge for attaching additional handles and straps to increase functional space.
• Eight Keiser air pressure-resisted performance cable trainers
• Multiple stations of dumbbells, kettlebells and medicine balls
• Life Fitness, Nautilus and Hammer plate loaded and selectorized machinery.
• Five Woodway treadmills, two Concept 2 rowing ergs, two Concept 2 ski ergs, three stepmills, a Woodway curve runner and 12 Keiser stationary bikes
• 20 video monitors throughout room for live tv/video or instructional review
• A Gatorade recovery station bar with coolers, blenders and ice machine
