The team visited with patients on a recent Friday.
The UNC men's golf team spent a recent Friday afternoon practicing its putting skills, but in a very different setting than usual. A few miles away from UNC Finley Golf Course, the Tar Heels visited UNC's Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and spent time at the unit that houses the Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant Program.
The entire team and coach Andrew DiBitetto visited with patients and their families. In addition to delivering some UNC goodies, the Tar Heels set up a putting station in the hallway, enticing patients and staff alike to try out their skills.
"It was cool to see the patients up and about and excited to do activities with us," senior William Register said. "They embraced us and seemed happy that we were there, and it was gratifying for us to be able to put a smile on their faces."
Carolina student-athletes are active in the Chapel Hill community throughout the year, including frequent visits to the nearby UNC Hospitals complex. In 2016-17, Tar Heel teams spent more than 5,000 hours volunteering.
