UNC Adds Pair Of Standouts To Open Spring

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – With the start of the new semester, the North Carolina men's tennis team has welcomed two outstanding freshmen to its roster. Mac Kiger and Benjamin Sigouin, both ranked in the top 10 of the 2017 recruiting class, bring national and international experience to Chapel Hill.
"We're very excited to welcome Mac, Ben and their families to the Carolina tennis family," UNC coach Sam Paul said. "They're excellent junior players and outstanding prospects for our team. They both should have an immediate impact and contribute for us right away."
Kiger, from Katonah, N.Y., was ranked ninth in the 2017 recruiting class by tennisrecruiting.net. Among his top performances are reaching the semifinals at 2017 National Clay Courts and the quarterfinals in the backdraw at 2017 Kalamazoo Hard Courts, where he also was a quarterfinalist in doubles. He has had success on the ITF circuit as well, winning a singles title in Atlanta and doubles titles in South Carolina and Florida.
Sigouin, from Vancouver, Canada, is the top-ranked recruit in the 2017 class, according to tennisrecruiting.net. He has been ranked as high as No. 4 in the ITF World Junior Rankings and No. 780 in the ATP World Rankings. A six-time Canadian National Champion, he was a member of the 2015 Junior Davis Cup team that won a championship for Canada. He was doubles runner-up in the boys' draw at the 2016 U.S. Open and a quarterfinalist in singles at the 2016 French Open.
UNC, the 2017 NCAA runner-up, is ranked No. 3 nationally in the preseason and opens the spring schedule on Thursday with a pair of home matches.
