Carolina Athletics Announces 2018 Tar Heel Trailblazers

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carolina Athletics will honor its fourth class of Tar Heel Trailblazers on Saturday, recognizing Peter Henry and Rochelle Small-Toney at an afternoon luncheon and at halftime of the men's basketball game against Pittsburgh.

Small-Toney was the first African-American women's varsity basketball player at UNC, playing on the 1977-78 team. She is now the City Manager for Rocky Mount, N.C., and is the first woman ever to serve in that role.

Henry was a Morehead-Cain Scholar and member of the football team at UNC. He went on to study at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. In 2010 he became the youngest person to serve as Dean of New York University's Stern School of Business. An expert on the global economy, he now serves as Stern's Dean Emeritus.

The award recognizes individuals who paved the way for success in all aspects of the student-athlete experience, shining a spotlight on pioneers who have made memorable and lasting contributions at UNC and beyond. The recognition coincides with the celebration of Black History Month during the month of February.
