McGowan, Griffin, Jenkins Earn Web.Com Status

Former Tar Heels Compete in Arizona Qualifier
Michael McGowan, Ben Griffin and Carter Jenkins – three former University of North Carolina golfers who led the Tar Heels in stroke average – earned playing status for 2019 on the Web.Com Tour after the final stage of the tour's qualifying tournament in Chandler, Ariz., on Dec. 6-9.
McGowan earned a spot in the Web.Com tour's first eight events in 2019. Griffin and Jenkins earned conditional status for the upcoming season.
Final stage qualifying took place at the The Cattail and Devil's Claw Courses at the Whirlwind Golf Club near Phoenix.
McGowan, a senior in 2013, tied for 34th with an 18 under 270 that included three rounds in the 60s (65-71-66-68). Jenkins (who played at UNC in 2015-16) and Griffin (2014-18) both finished at 11 under.
McGowan led UNC in stroke average in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Jenkins led UNC in 2016 when he earned All-ACC honors. Griffin is Carolina's all-time leader in career stroke average, led UNC in annual stroke average in 2015, 2017 and 2018 and earned All-ACC honors as a freshman and senior.
The 2019 Web.com Tour begins play on Jan. 13 at the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay.
