December 18, 2018 | Wrestling
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) --- The Atlantic Coast Conference has recognized North Carolina's Chip Ness and NC State's Nick Reenan as the ACC Co-Wrestlers of the Week for December 18 after a strong showing by each in matchups of elite wrestlers in the 184-pound weight class.
Ness, ranked 13th nationally among 184-pounders, posted a 6-4 win over third-ranked Taylor Venz of Nebraska on Saturday night. Reenan, who entered the weekend ranked No. 5, defeated Venz by an 8-6 count on Sunday afternoon to help the No. 7 Wolfpack edge the No. 11 Cornhuskers, 18-17. Venz is a returning All-American who placed fourth at the 2018 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
It marks the third ACC weekly honor of the season and the second in as many weeks for Reenan, while Ness was recognized for the first time this season.
Ness, who also defeated Venz at the 2018 NCAAs, improved to 8-4 for this season with Saturday night's win. The victory by the redshirt senior from Duluth, Georgia, tied the dual match with the Huskers before Nebraska scrapped to pull out the win over the No. 12 Tar Heels in the latter matches.
Reenan inched up to No. 4 in this week's InterMat 184-pound national rankings, while Ness moved up two spots to No. 11.
