Toys For Tots And Operation Toy Storm Details
December 5, 2018 | General
CHAPEL HILL—Carolina fans, this holiday season you can help provide toys to thousands of Orange County children and families in eastern North Carolina who are still recovering from Hurricane Florence who would go without any gifts if not for the help of the Orange County Toys for Tots and Operation Toy Storm campaigns.
On Saturday, December 15, Carolina Basketball and the Orange County Toys for Tots and Operation Toy Storm are teaming up to collect all of those toys on one evening at the Dean Smith Center at the Gonzaga game at 7 p.m.
Collection bins will be located at each Smith Center entrance and all Carolina fans are encouraged to bring at least one new, unwrapped toy for a needy youngster in Orange County and eastern North Carolina counties. Bring a new toy to make a child's day, and come cheer on the Tar Heels as they take on Gonzaga on Saturday, December 15 at 7 p.m.
Toy donations can also be made directly online here or toystorm.org.
Chapel Hill Transit is joining the effort to help Toys for Tots and Operation Toy Storm as well. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to 'fill the bus' at the Friday Center or Southern Village park and ride lots for the Gonzaga game. If you are not using one of these park and rides, bring your toy(s) to the game and help fill the boxes located at the Smith Center.
Tar Heel Express shuttles will begin at 5:30 p.m. from the park and rides located at the Friday Center, Airport Drive, Southern Village, and Jones Ferry. Shuttles will also be available from the Carolina Coffee Shop located at 138 East Franklin Street (no parking provided). The shuttles will provide continuous and fully accessible service, running every 10 to 15 minutes between the park and rides and the Dean E. Smith Center. The shuttles will operate for approximately forty-five (45) minutes following the game. Â
Shuttles drop off and pick up on Bowles Drive in front of the Dean E. Smith Center. Shuttle rides are $5 for a round-trip or $3 for a one-way trip.
Park and ride permits are not required during Tar Heel Express events.
