March 20, 2018 | Women's Tennis
TEMPE, Ariz. - North Carolina remains atop the national team rankings, as Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the latest Oracle/ITA Collegiate Women's Division I National Rankings on Tuesday.
The Tar Heels held off both Miami and Florida State last week, claiming 4-3 victories on the road to improve to 16-1 on the season. North Carolina leads the ACC with a 5-0 record, and this weekend host No. 6 Georgia Tech on March 24, and Virginia Tech on March 25.
Carolina also saw all six of its nationally-ranked singles players remain in the top-125. Sophomore Makenna Jones leads the group at No. 18 and is followed by No. 20 Alle Sanford, No. 27 Sara Daavettila, No. 47 Jessie Aney, No. 70 Alexa Graham and No. 103 Chloe Ouellet-Pizer.
Aney and Graham continue to hold down the No. 2 doubles ranking and Sanford and Daavettila check in No. 13 this week.
The match with the Yellow Jackets will pit the top-2 ranked doubles tandems in the nation. Georgia Tech's duo of Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones moved up three places to No. 1 this week.
Saturday's 11 a.m. match in Chapel Hill also marks a rematch of the 2017 ACC Championship title match that went to the Tar Heels by a slim, 4-3, margin last April in Rome, Georgia.
UNC heads up a group of six ACC schools ranked in the top 25: North Carolina (1); Duke (4); Georgia Tech (6); Wake Forest (14); Miami (19); Virginia (21).
