Benjamin Sigouin has been named ACC Player of the Week.

UNC freshman Benjamin Sigouin has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league.

Playing at No. 2 singles, Sigouin helped the Tar Heels to a pair of road wins to earn a share of the ACC regular season title. At FSU on Friday, he beat #31 Guy Iradkunda in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) to clinch the match for UNC. It was the third ACC win he's clinched and the third time this spring he's beaten a player ranked higher than he is.

On Sunday at Miami, Sigouin beat #123 Christian Langmo for his eighth win of the season over a ranked player. He's 16-2 since starting at UNC in January and he finished 8-1 in conference play.

Sigouin is 30th in the latest ITA singles rankings, released Tuesday.

UNC, ranked No. 6 in this week's ITA poll, opens play in the ACC Championship on Friday at 5 p.m., taking on the winner of Thursday's match between NC State and Miami.
