Taylor Koenen and Bryana Nguyen are the latest Carolina Spotlight student-athletes, recognizing their involvement in and leadership of student-athlete governance at UNC and beyond.
Koenan, a sophomore on the Tar Heel women's basketball team, recently was selected to serve on the Atlantic Coast Conference Autonomy Committee. She is one of three ACC student-athletes on the committee and also will be part of the voting delegation at the 2018 NCAA Convention. For more on that honor, click here.
A guard from Savage, Minn., she is majoring in business administration and represents her team as a member of UNC's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) as well as serving on the ACC SAAC.
Nguyen, a senior on the women's golf team, is co-president of UNC's SAAC, the student-athlete governing body that collaborates with athletics and university administrators on behalf of Carolina's nearly 800 student-athletes. In this role and as a member of the ACC SAAC, she focuses on improving the student-athlete experience for all Tar Heels. She also is part of the planning committee for the annual Rammy Awards, coming up later this month.
In addition to those leadership roles, she is very active in community outreach and was honored with a 2016-17 ACC Top Six for Service Award, recognizing outstanding participation in service activities.
Nguyen is from Columbia, Md., and is majoring in broadcast journalism with a minor in Spanish for the professions.
