Blumberg Advances With First-Round Win

Tar Heels went 1-1 Wednesday in NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament singles play in Winston-Salem, N.C., with sophomore William Blumberg winning and freshman Benjamin Sigouin falling, both in straight sets.
Blumberg, the No. 2 overall seed in the field, took on San Diego's August Holmgren at 11 a.m. and won 6-4, 6-4. He'll return to action at 9 a.m. on Thursday, facing Edu Mena of Tennessee Tech.
In a 3 p.m. match, Sigouin fell to South Carolina's Paul Jubb, 6-4, 7-6(6).
As singles play continues on Thursday, doubles play begins. Blumberg and senior Robert Kelly are seeded No. 2 in the field and will open at 2:30 p.m. against California's Billy Griffith and J.T. Nishimura.
All action is taking place at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
