GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina, the 2018 ACC Women's Tennis Champions, placed four players on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team on Thursday. Makenna Jones earned first-team honors, while Sara Daavettila, Alexa Graham and Alle Sanford were voted to the second team.
Jones, a sophomore from Greenville, South Carolina, has had a remarkable second season in Chapel Hill. She was named Most Valuable Player of the ACC Championship, compiled a 33-4 overall singles record, ranks second in the ACC with 23 dual wins and posted just the second 14-0 conference record in program history.Â
Jones is 11-0 at No. 1 singles and enters NCAA play on a 16-match winning streak.Â
Daavettila, from Williamston, Michigan, earns ACC honors for the second year in a row. The 2017 ACC Freshman of the Year is 29-11 overall in singles and 8-3 versus the ACC. Her 15-1 mark at No. 3 singles is the best in the conference.Â
Graham, also a sophomore who hails from Garden City, New York, grabs all-league honors for a second-straight season. She is 32-8 overall in singles and 25-9 in doubles alongside playing partner Jessie Aney. The duo spent multiple weeks ranked No. 1 in the country.Â
Graham's 24 dual-match singles wins is tied for the most in the ACC. She went a stellar 13-1 against the conference and enjoyed a 23-match winning streak during the 2018 campaign.Â
Sanford, a freshman from Westerville, Ohio, won the Oracle Masters event in the fall to get her rookie campaign rolling. She wound up with a 22-16 overall singles record, finding her groove at No. 2 singles with a 5-2 record.Â
Sanford also teamed up with Daavettila for an 18-10 record. That includes a 12-7 record at No. 2 doubles for the Tar Heels.Â
Carolina (26-3) garnered the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Team Championship, and will host a regional on May 11 and 12 at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels will face Morgan State on Friday at 1 p.m. Mississippi State and William & Mary will play the first match that day at 10 a.m.
