
Program Record Five All-America Selections

TEMPE, Arizona - North Carolina women's tennis boasts a program record five players on the 2018 ITA All-America list.
Sophomore Makenna Jones earned her first ever All-America honor in singles by virtue of her No. 2 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship. The Greenville, South Carolina, native finished her season 35-5 overall and ranked the No. 4 player in the ITA rankings.
The 2018 ACC Championship MVP was the second player in program history to notch a perfect 14-0 mark against the ACC at No. 1 singles.
Junior Jessie Aney and sophomore Alexa Graham gained their All-America status as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Doubles Championship. This is Aney's second straight appearance on the doubles list when she was an All-America alongside Hayley Carter in 2017, while Graham grabs her first honor as a sophomore.Â
The duo was a sizzling 27-11 overall this year. That includes an 18-7 mark at No. 1 doubles and went 10-2 against the ACC. They finished the year ranked No. 3 in the nation.
Sophomore Sara Daavettila and freshman Alle Sanford earned their way on the All-America list by reaching the quarterfinals of the NCAA doubles tournament. Daavettila was a singles All-America as a freshman in 2017 in a similar fashion by fighting her way to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Singles Championship.Â
The Tar Heel tandem went 22-11 overall and was 13-7 at No. 2 doubles. Daavettila and Sanford upset No. 1 seed Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones to highlight their effort in the NCAA event. They capped the season No. 17 in the final rankings of 2018.
This is the second time in program history that UNC has had two doubles teams earn All-America honors in the same season The first occurred in 2014, when Carter and Jamie Loeb, and Whitney Kay and Caroline Price were recognized.
