Miller To Remain At UNC Helm While Coaching Search Continues

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Veteran coach Ron Miller will delay his planned retirement and remain at the helm of the North Carolina men's and women's fencing teams, UNC Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham announced Tuesday. The 2018-19 season will be Miller's 52nd season at Carolina, and he is the only head coach the Tar Heel fencing program has ever known.
Miller had announced plans to retire as UNC's head coach effective Aug. 31, 2018. However, he has agreed to stay on while the search for his successor continues. The new coach will take over prior to the 2019-20 season.
"I look forward to supporting our administration in the search and in the meantime I'll have the pleasure of coaching Tar Heel student-athletes for one more season," Miller said
"We appreciate Coach Miller's dedication to our students, the program and Carolina Athletics," Cunningham said. "He has devoted so much of his life to UNC and to the sport of fencing. We're grateful he has agreed to stay while we identify the next head coach of the Carolina fencing program."
