Walker, Lu To Compete in US Women’s Amateur

CHAPEL HILL – Rising junior Brynn Walker and incoming freshman Nicole Lu qualified for the US Women's Amateur and will compete for the title at the par 71, 6,365-yard Golf Club of Tennessee, Aug. 6 through 12 in Kingston Springs, Tennessee.
For the first round on Aug. 6, Lu tees off with Lauren Stephenson and Brooke Boardman at 8:33 a.m. from the first hole while Walker begins with Micheala Williams and Sophie Hausmann at 2:03 p.m. from hole 10. The second round begins on Tuesday with Walker teeing off from the first hole at 8:33 a.m. and Lu from the 10th hole at 2:03 p.m.
Walker has started every tournament since her freshman year and had a stroke average of 74.36 for the 2017-18 season with six rounds under par. The St. David's, Pennsylvania native fired a five-under-par, 67 to become medalist at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship qualifier at the 6,284-yard Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell, New Jersey.
In 2017, Lu won of the Gary Gilchrist Award and was named the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Sportswoman of the Year in 2016. Lu shot 71 to be the first qualifier at the University of Florida's 6,075-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Florida. Prior to the spring season, she had a combined 20 top-five finishes in AJGA, Future Collegians World Tour, Hurricane Junior Golf Tour and International Junior Golf Tour events since 2016.
