Carolina Begins 2019 Ranked No. 3

North Carolina women's tennis begins 2019 the same way it ended 2018 as the third ranked program in the nation according to the first Oracle/ITA Division I top-25 rankings release of the season.
The Tar Heels lead a group of seven Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the inaugural rankings of the new year. Behind Carolina is Duke (4), Georgia Tech (14), Florida State (15), Miami (17), Virginia (23) and Syracuse (24). NC State and Wake Forest find themselves in the others receiving votes category.Â
Defending NCAA champion Stanford sits atop the rankings, followed by Vanderbilt at No. 2, UNC, Duke and Georgia round out the top-5.
Carolina, the defending ITA Indoor National Champions and winners of the last three ACC Championships, begins its dual match season Saturday with a doubleheader against Elon at 11 a.m. and Charlotte at 4 p.m from inside Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
