Student Football Ticket Lottery Begins With Duke Game
October 4, 2019 | Football, Tickets
CHAPEL HILL—Carolina Athletics will begin a lottery for all student tickets for the final three home football games this season against Duke (Oct. 26), Virginia (Nov. 2) and Mercer (Nov. 23).
Â
Winners of the lottery will receive one ticket for that game. The lottery entry process will begin 10 days before each home game at 9 a.m. Students will have 48 hours to register. Late entries will not be accepted.
Â
The lottery entry period for the Oct. 26 game vs. Duke will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 9 a.m. and close on Friday, Oct. 18 at 9 a.m.
Â
"Student support has been fantastic for each of the first three home games and we appreciate how they embraced a new way to sign up for tickets in advance," says Gerry Lajoie, UNC's Director of Athletic Ticketing. "One issue we heard from our students that the lottery will address, however, is tickets were being claimed so quickly that if you had class when the signups began, you were out of luck. The lottery ensures every student has a full 48-hour window to sign up for each game. The draw is random; you can sign up any time in the 48-hour window and have the same chance as someone who signs up first."
Â
Email notifications will be sent to all students – those who have won the lottery and those who have not – by the following Tuesday (Oct. 22 for the Duke game). Entering the lottery does not guarantee a student will receive a ticket. Students are reminded to check their spam folders.Â
Â
Lottery winners will receive a second email with their ticket approximately 48 hours before the game.
Â
If all student tickets are claimed, students may still be able to get into the game on a standby basis by showing their valid UNC OneCard at Gate 5.
Â
"The students have been loud, their sections have been full for all three games and our goal is to give every student on campus an equal shot at obtaining a ticket," says Lajoie.
Â
The online lottery for football ticket signups is similar to the one used for select men's basketball games. All 10 of Carolina's ACC games and select non-conference games against Ohio State and Wofford (which will be played in Carmichael Arena on Dec. 15) will also use the lottery system.
