February 5, 2019 | Wrestling
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina 149-pound redshirt freshman Austin O'Connor has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week for February 5.
The ACC weekly honor is the third of the season for O'Connor and the first for the Lockport, Illinois, native since he was recognized in back-to-back weeks November 20-27.
O'Connor upped his impressive record to 25-3 with a pair of pins in the 17th-ranked Tar Heels' team wins over Bucknell and No. 13 Pitt. O'Connor is now 14-1 in dual competition in his first collegiate season. He has seven pins thus far, and 15 of his 25 wins have been of the bonus-point variety.
O'Connor opened on Friday night by taking down Bucknell's Matthew Kolonia in a time of 3:15. He followed up on Saturday with a pin of Pitt's Robert Lee in 4:25, earning points that proved to be the difference in UNC's 19-16 ACC victory over the Panthers.
