Two Tar Heels Earn Summer Internships At Nike World Headquarters
March 28, 2019 | Field Hockey, Women's Basketball, Student-Athlete Development
Tar Heels compete in Nike and Jordan-branded gear all year long, but two UNC student-athletes have earned the opportunity to take that connection a step further. Marissa Creatore, a junior on the field hockey team, and Olivia Smith, a junior on the women's basketball team, will spend this summer surrounded by the swoosh as interns at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.
Â
North Carolina's long-term agreement with Nike includes two student-athlete internship positions each summer, providing Tar Heels with an outstanding opportunity to gain experience and partner with a brand they wear every day in competition and training. After a rigorous interview process that began during the fall semester, Creatore and Smith were selected for this year's spots.
Creatore, a psychology major from Chapel Hill, will be part of the Football Brand Marketing team. On that team she'll work with a former Tar Heel, Ryan Macri, who was one of last year's UNC summer interns. A former member of the Carolina men's lacrosse team, he now has a full-time position with Nike.
Â
"I can't wait to work for a company that has inspired me since I was a little girl," Creatore said. "I've always been proud to wear the Nike brand so I'm excited to have the opportunity to be on the production side of the company and represent Carolina field hockey. I am looking forward to going to Oregon and experiencing the innovative, inclusive, and high-energy atmosphere at Nike."
Â
Smith, a business major from Raleigh, will work in the Global Categories office as part of the Nike Women's program, specifically with strategy and marketing.
Â
"For the past three years I've had the opportunity to represent Nike and Jordan Brand through Carolina women's basketball," Smith said.  "Now I'm honored that I'll get to experience the brand on a larger platform and learn from the leaders in the industry!  Nike is the gold standard and the specific area of Nike Women's presents an opportunity to learn from powerful and successful women."
