#1 UNC Remains Perfect In ACC Play With Win Over Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Junior Makenna Jones clinched a come-from-behind, 5-2, victory for the No. 1 North Carolina women's tennis team over 25th ranked Virginia on Friday afternoon.Â
It wasn't easy, but UNC (18-1, 6-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) remained perfect in doubles to take the early 1-0 lead over the Cavaliers. Brian Kalbas switched up the lineup on lines two and three. Makenna Jones and Alle Sanford were first off on court two, 6-4, and No. 9 Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham cleaned up the point on court one, 7-5 over 58th ranked Gullickson and O'Dell.Â
Virginia (10-4, 4-3) took a 2-1 lead in the match, but the tides turned quickly back in favor of the Tar Heels. No. 14 Sara Daavetilla won on court three and minutes later Jessie Aney did the same on court five to regain a 3-2 edge.Â
Jones secured the win with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Vivian Glozman on court two.Â
No. 6 Graham closed out the game with a thriller on court one, 6-2, 7-6 (11), over No. 33 Meghan Kelley.Â
Carolina hosts Clemson on Sunday at 1 p.m.
