Tar Heels Tied for Fourth, Ocano Tied for Seventh

MACON, GA – The Tar Heels are in a tie for fourth place out of 13 teams following the first two rounds of the Brickyard Collegiate.
Round 1
Junior Brynn Walker picked up from her strong showing at the Bryan National Collegiate and fired a 1-under-par 71 on the par 72, 6,126 yards course Monday morning in the first round. Walker's round featured five birdies and ten pars.
Sophomore Ava Bergner and freshman Jennifer Zhou recorded the next best opening rounds with scores of 1-over-pars 73.
Mariana Ocano, who is competing as an individual in the Brickyard Collegiate, also finished with a 1-over-par 73.
Senior Kelly Whaley and freshman Nicole Lu tallied 4-over-pars 76 in the first round.
Round 2
Following a brief lightning delay, the Tar Heels transitioned to the second round of the Brickyard Collegiate.
With five birdies in the second round, Ocano posted the lowest score of the competing Tar Heels. Ocano's 2-under-par 70 tied for the second lowest round of round two. Currently, Ocano is in a tie for seventh.
Walker and Zhou posted the lowest team scores of the second round with 1-over-pars 73.
Bergner recorded the next best round with a 2-over-par 74.
Whaley and Lu repeated their first round scores with 4-over-par 76s in the second round.
The Mercer University Bears lead the tournament by one stroke over UNC Charlotte.
The third and final round of the Brickyard Collegiate will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
