Austin Hitt Earns All-ACC Honor
May 8, 2019 | Men's Golf
Has Carolina's Lowest-Ever Stroke Average
Tar Heel junior Austin Hitt is one of 16 players named to the 2019 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Golf team, the league announced on Wednesday.
This is the Longwood, Fla. native's first all-conference honor. Hitt currently has a stroke average of 70.78, the lowest ever by a Tar Heel. The three-year starter will begin NCAA Regional play at Stanford on May 13 with a career average of 72.14, second in UNC history behind 2018 senior Ben Griffin.
"Our entire team is thrilled for Austin," says UNC head coach Andrew DiBitetto. "Players desire to get better and desire to be great, but few do the things necessary to take their game to higher levels. Austin committed himself to improving and being an elite player this year. He still has room to improve, but he's been tremendous and absolutely has earned the right to be recognized as one of the best in a deep and talented ACC."
Hitt has a record of 848-145 this season. He is ranked No. 38 in the nation by Golfstat. He leads Carolina in score to par (17 under), sub-par rounds (19) and rounds in the 60s (12). He placed second in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, fourth in San Diego and sixth twice among five top-10 finishes this season.
Carolina is ranked No. 26 in the nation. The Tar Heels play in the NCAA Stanford Regional May 13-15.
