Tar Heels Finish Thirteenth at the NCAA Regional

EAST LANSING, MI - The Tar Heels' women's golf team concluded its 2018-19 season on Wednesday after finishing in thirteenth place in the NCAA East Lansing Regional at Forest Akers West Golf Course.
The Tar Heels pieced together its best performance for the tournament, with a 7-over-par 295.
Freshman Jennifer Zhou led the way for the Tar Heels with a 2-under-par 70. Zhou, who was recently named to the All-ACC Women's Golf Team, recorded five birdies and eleven pars in the final round of the tournament.
Junior Brynn Walker trailed Zhou by one stroke and tallied a 1-under-par 71 on Wednesday afternoon. Most notably, Walker chipped in for an eagle on the eleventh hole. Additionally, she recorded three birdies and ten pars.
Freshman Nicole Lu shot a 4-over-par 76 and sophomore Ava Bergner scored a 6-over-par 78.
Senior Kelly Whaley concluded her collegiate career on Wednesday with a 9-over-par 81. Over the course of four years, Whaley started every tournament for the Tar Heels and won two tournaments as an individual, the Cougar Classic in the 2016-17 season and the Briar's Creek Invitational in the 2017-18 season. Whaley holds the UNC record for season stroke average, with 73.24 strokes per round in the 2017-18 season.
The Kent State Golden Flashes won the NCAA East Lansing Regional at 4-under-par.
The Tar Heels will break for the summer and return in the fall for the 2019-20 season.
