Boyden, Cernoch And Peck Earn All-ACC Academic Honors
June 21, 2019 | Men's Tennis, Academics
Three Tar Heels have been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team for men's tennis, announced Friday by the league. UNC graduate Blaine Boyden capped his career by earning All-ACC Academic honors for the third year in a row. Rising sophomore Brian Cernoch and rising senior Joshua Peck were honored for the first time.
Â
The award is based on both academic and athletic success over the past season. All three Tar Heels earned All-ACC honors in 2019, with Cernoch named to the All-ACC second team, and Boyden and Peck named to the third team.
Â
Boyden, from Raleigh, N.C., graduated from UNC in May after majoring in business administration. As a senior, he earned All-America honors for the first time in his career after competing in the NCAA Doubles Championship and finishing the season ranked seventh nationally.
Â
Cernoch is from Rockville, Md. and has not yet declared a major. A key player for the Tar Heels in his first year in Chapel Hill, he played mostly at No. 3 or 4 singles and at No. 2 in doubles. He completed the spring with a 17-6 singles record and a final ranking of No. 88 nationally. He was ranked No. 65 in doubles.
Â
Peck, from Calgary, Alberta, is majoring in exercise and sport science. He made great strides during the season, finished the spring with a 14-9 record in singles, playing mostly at No. 3 with a final ranking of No. 90.
