Wrestling Set for Visit to Japan

CHAPEL HILL --- The North Carolina wrestling program will head to Tokyo, Japan, on Friday for a two-week summer training tour ahead of the 2019-20 preseason.
The full team and staff will leave Chapel Hill on Friday morning and will be in Japan until August 14, training in and experiencing unique spots around the country. Including staying in the heart of the city of Tokyo, one of the team's destinations will be in the prefecture of Gunma, known for its famous hot springs.
"It's difficult to put into words how excited we are for this trip," head coach Coleman Scott said. "Teams do not often get opportunities like this. We're looking forward to training in a different location and the travel, but I'm most excited for the opportunity we're going to have to grow together as a team. A trip like this is very valuable. We're going to use it as a time to build our camaraderie so we can hit the ground running this season.
"We know our goals, and our time in Japan is going to be the jumping-off point for them."
Scott selected Japan as the destination partly due to Tokyo being the 2020 Olympics host city. He hopes to make the trip a tradition, visiting each Olympic city the year before to prepare hopefuls in the program for the opportunity to make the U.S. team in that cycle.
GoHeels.com and UNC Wrestling will have full behind-the-scenes coverage of the team's trip from start to finish. Fans can stay tuned for updates on Twitter and Instagram (@uncwrestling) for unique content throughout the two-week visit overseas.
