Tagg Heads to Estonia to Compete in Junior Worlds
August 11, 2019 | Wrestling
North Carolina freshman Gabriel Tagg is set to wrestle at the 2019 Junior World Championships this week, representing the United States at 61kg.
Tagg earned the World Team spot back in May with his best-of-three series win over fellow UNC standout Jaime Hernandez at the World Team Trials in Raleigh. Tagg pinned Penn State All-American Roman Bravo-Young in the finals of the U.S. Open in April, which earned him the right to sit out until the finals against Hernandez.
Tagg will receive his draw Monday at 7:15 a.m. EST and will begin wrestling Tuesday at 3:30 a.m. EST in the qualifying rounds. The semifinals will take place at 12:30 p.m. EST, with the finals tabbed for a day later on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. EST.
Tony Ramos will be traveling with Tagg to coach him in the tournament.
