ROME --- North Carolina volunteer assistant coach Jordan Oliver took silver at the 2020 Matteo Pellicone at 65 kilograms for the U.S. Saturday in Italy. The tournament was the first 2020 rankings series ahead of the Olympic Trials, which will take place in State College, Pennsylvania on April 4-5.
Oliver wrestled three matches in the first session, including a 10-0 technical fall over Kazakhstan and a 7-0 win over Ukraine in the semi-finals.Â
In the finals, Oliver narrowly lost to India's Bajrang Punia (ranked No. 4 in the world at 65kg), 4-3.
Oliver outscored opponents 50-0 at the 2019 U.S. Senior Nationals in Texas in December. His performance at the Matteo Pellicone further solidifies his role as a front-runner to make the U.S. Olympic Team at 65 kilograms.Â
