Tar Heels Improve To 2-0 With 7-0 Win Over Wofford

CHAPEL HILL—University of North Carolina continued its strong opening weekend performance and picked up a 7-0 win over Wofford on Sunday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Tar Heels, ranked No. 4 in the nation in the preseason ITA national poll, improved to 2-0 to start the season with their second 7-0 win of the weekend. Wofford fell to 0-2.
"Wofford took the doubles point from Clemson yesterday, and that woke us up a little bit coming in," head coach Sam Paul said after the match. "I was really pleased with our energy in doubles, how we came out in doubles. We played better than we did the day before, so overall that's good. Better today than it was before."
Carolina swept the Terriers to win the doubles point, with William Blumberg and Brian Cernoch winning 6-0 at No. 1, Mac Kiger and Simon Soendergaard winning 6-3 at No. 2 and Josh Peck and Ladd Harrison winning 6-2 at No. 3.
Carolina then swept the singles matches over the Terriers as well.
Blumberg (No. 1 singles), Cernoch (No. 2), Peck (ranked No. 82 and playing at No. 3 singles), Soendergaard (No. 4), Kigeriger (No. 5) and Harrison (No. 6) all won their singles matches in straight sets.
The Tar Heels will return to action next weekend when they host the ITA Kickoff Weekend at home on Saturday and Sunday.
