October 14, 2020 | General
Chapel Hill, NC ---The NCAA has awarded 10 championships to the University of North Carolina and the City of Cary for the 2022-2026 seasons.
The University North Carolina will host the following championships:
NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship – Karen Shelton Stadium / 2023
NCAA Division I Men's Golf Regional – UNC Finley Golf Course / 2024
NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regional – UNC Finley Golf Course / 2026
The City of Cary and the University of North Carolina will host the following championships:
    NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship – WakeMed Soccer Park / 2022, 2023, 2024
    NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship – WakeMed Soccer Park / 2023, 2024
    NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship – WakeMed Soccer Park / 2022, 2025
Â
The Chapel Hill campus will call three championship events home from 2022-2026. Home of eight time national champions, Karen Shelton Stadium will host the 2023 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship. This will be the first time hosting a NCAA Field Hockey Championship at this venue, as the Tar Heels hosted the 1987 NCAA Championship at Navy Field.
The Men's Golf Regional will make a return to the UNC Finley Golf Course for the first time since the Tar Heels hosted the 2015 Regional. For the first time since 2001, the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regional will be hosted by the university. Both events will take place the Tom Fazio - designed UNC Finley Golf Course.
WakeMed Soccer Park has hosted the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship eight times, and again will again call the site home to the 2021 (moved from the fall of 2020). The 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship will also be held in Cary, marking the sixth time WakeMed has hosted the men's championship as well. The 2023 and 2024 Women's Lacrosse Championship will call WakeMed home for the first time.
This is the third time for this specific NCAA championship bid process, which created the largest host site announcement ever, spanning 86 championships across a four-year cycle. Previously, selection announcements varied by sport. This process now gives the NCAA and host sites more time to plan each championship experience.
Bidding for 86 of 90 NCAA championships began in August 2019 and more than 3,000 bid applications were ultimately submitted. Each sport committee, per division, selected the host sites it believed would provide the ultimate experience for the respective student-athletes, resulting in more than 450 total championship event sites being awarded. More than 54,000 student-athletes compete in NCAA championships each year.
The four championships not included in the process due to preexisting site arrangements are: Division I baseball, Division I football, Division I softball and Division III women's ice hockey.
