Burnett 12th After Strong Final Round
Raleigh native and University of North Carolina freshman Peter Fountain tied for fifth place in the Maridoe Invitational, a 47-player collegiate men's golf event at the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas.
Fountain was the second-highest freshman finisher in the field and was second among the Atlantic Coast Conference golfers in the 54-hole tournament. He shot 77-71-75 to finish at 7-over 223. That was six shots off the lead by medalist Elis Svard, a graduate transfer from Ohio State.
None of the 47 players finished at even or below par over the three rounds. Fountain tied for the lead among all competitors on the par 3's at 2 under with UNC teammate Ryan Burnett, who tied for 12th place. Burnett shot even-par 72 in today's third and final round, one of only six players to shoot par or better over the final 18 holes. He shot 79-76-72 to close at 11-over 227.
Tar Heel senior Ryan Gerard tied for 19th at 15-over 231, sophomore Austin Greaser was 24th (233) and fifth-year senior Austin Hitt tied for 35th (239).
