CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina head women's tennis coach Brian Kalbas has announced that Carson Tanguilig (Alpharetta, Ga.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Tar Heels for the 2021 fall semester.
"Carson is going to be a great fit for our program," said Kalbas. "Her mother attended Carolina so she has a strong understanding of what our university is all about. Carson's work ethic, attitude and thirst to improve is inspiring to us and we think the talent she has will thrive over the coming years in pursuit of fulfilling her potential."
Tanguilig is a blue chip recruit and ranked as high as No. 14 in the Class of 2021 according to TennisRecruiting.net. She rates as the No. 5 player in the Southeast Region and the No. 2 player in the state of Georgia.Â
She won three grade 4 doubles titles and reached the doubles final of the Pan American ITF event. Tanguilig earned four bronze balls for doubles at super nationals (2018 clay courts, 2018 and 2019 winter nationals and 2019 hard courts).Â
Also, a winner of a pair of national level 2 singles titles in her career, Tanguilig reached the quarterfinals of the Orange Bowl singles, won the 2018 Orange Bowl doubles crown and the 2018 Southern closed singles event.
