Pickett Named Senior CLASS Award Candidate
February 18, 2020 | Softball
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Selected as one of the top 30 softball senior student-athletes, Brittany Pickett, a pitcher from Indian Trail, North Carolina, has been named a candidate for the 2020 Senior CLASS Award.
Â
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Â
Pickett, a preseason all-ACC selection, earned all-ACC first team and all-tournament team honors for the third consecutive season. Picking up NFCA all-region second team-honors as a junior, the southpaw led UNC's pitching staff, making 34 starts and appearing in 43 games while also posting seven home runs at the plate for a team-best .603 slugging percentage. Pickett improved her ERA to 2.02, limiting her opponents to .212 average. To view Pickett's profile, visit seniorclassaward.com.
Â
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Â
In the ACC, Pickett is joined by Celene Funke from Louisville Katie Marino from Notre Dame as three of the 30 selections.
Â
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
Â
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2020 Women's College World Series. Visit seniorclassaward.com for more information.
