Carolina Tops Pitt, 7-2 to Even Weekend Series

CHAPEL HILL – Highlighted by a five-run sixth inning and Hannah George's fifth complete game, Carolina defeated Pittsburgh, 7-2 on Saturday afternoon to even up the weekend series at Anderson Stadium.
Following a quiet first four innings, Carolina took the lead in the fifth off the bats of Destiny Middleton and Abby Settlemyre. Shortly after, Pittsburgh responded with a two-run home run by Hunter Levesque, tying the game 2-2 at the top of sixth inning. Carolina answered back with a five runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 7-2 win. An RBI-walk by Kiersten Licea gave UNC the lead before Middleton plated three runs on a triple to left to finalize the score.
Snapping their six-game skid, the Tar Heels improve their overall record 7-11 while Pitt falls 6-8. Both teams are 1-1 in ACC competition and will play the rubber game Sunday at noon.
