Eight Women Qualify For NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Eight members of the North Carolina women's swimming and diving teams have received bids to compete at the 2020 NCAA Division I Championships that will occur March 18-21 in Athens, Georgia.Â
Carolina's individual bids have been earned by senior Bryanna Cameron, juniors Emma Cole, Caroline Hauder and Brooke Perrotta, sophomores Grace Countie, Lilly Higgs and Sophie Lindner, and freshman Ellie VanNoteÂ
The Tar Heels are also eligible to compete in the 400 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay by already swimming a qualifying standard. The team has also met provisional standards in the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relay.Â
Bryanna Cameron, Senior
Cameron will compete in the women's 200-yard butterfly at the NCAA Championships after swimming a time of 1:56.06 against Duke on Feb. 1 in Durham. Cameron's performance ranks 37th among the NCAA Division I competitors.Â
Emma Cole, Junior
Cole has qualified in two events, the women's 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. Her time of 22.21 in the 50 free at the Georgia Tech Invitational is tied for the fifth fastest time in program history and ranks 36th among NCAA Division I competitors, while the 52.18 in the 100 fly is 28th among NCAA qualifiers and the third best time in UNC history.Â
Grace Countie, Sophomore
Countie has also qualified in two events this season, the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Countie's 22.09 in the 50 free is the third fastest mark in program history and ranks 25th among NCAA competitors. Meanwhile, her 51.59 in the 100 back sits 11th among NCAA qualifiers and is the third best mark in UNC history.Â
Caroline Hauder, Junior
Hauder qualified for a team-leading three events at the NCAA Championships in the 200-yard Individual Medley, the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard freestyle. Hauder's performance of 1:55.59 in the 200 IM at the ACC Championship set a new UNC record and places her 15th among NCAA competitors. Her time of 59.29 in the 100 breast against Duke is also 15th in the NCAA field and a program standard, while the 48.15 time in the 100 free is 21st among NCAA competitors and second best at UNC.Â
Lilly Higgs, Sophomore
Higgs will compete in the 100-yard breaststroke. Her time of 59.92 is second best ever at North Carolina and 37th among NCAA competitors.Â
Sophie Lindner, Sophomore
Lindner has qualified in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke at the NCAA Championships. Lindner's performance of 52.34 is good for 22nd among NCAA competitors and sixth all-time with the Tar Heels. Additionally, her time of 1:53.30 at the Georgia Tech Invitational is 24th in the NCAA field.Â
Brooke Perrotta, Junior
Perrotta is competing in the 100-yard butterfly after swimming a time of 52.26. Her performance places her 32nd among NCAA competitors and is the fourth fastest time in program history.Â
Ellie VanNote, Freshman
VanNote qualified for the 200-yard butterfly in her first NCAA Championships appearance. Her time of 1:55.99 puts her seventh in Carolina history and 35th among the NCAA competition field.Â
