UNC Freshman One of Three at 7 Under in Stroke Play
University of North Carolina freshman Peter Fountain shot a 3-under-par 67 Wednesday on Pinehurst No. 4 to tie two others for medalist honors after 36 holes of stroke play in the 2020 North & South Amateur at the Pinehurst Resort.
Fountain shot 66-67 for a two-day total of 7 under 133. The Raleigh, N.C., native tied for the lead with Travis Vick of Houston and David Perkins of East Peoria, Ill. They finished two strokes ahead of William Paysse of Temple, Texas, and Cooper Dossey of Austin, Texas.
The top 32 players in the field advance to match play, which begins on Thursday on Pinehurst No. 2.
