Freshman Continues Torrid Summer
University of North Carolina freshman Peter Fountain continued his stellar play this summer tying for second place one shot out of the lead Sunday at the 2020 Carolinas Amateur at Cape Fear Country Club.
The Raleigh native shot a 2-under-par 70 in Sunday's fourth and final round to finish at 16 under 272. UNCW red-shirt freshman Lansdon Robbins won the event at 17 under after a bogey-free 67 on Sunday.
Fountain shot 66-68-68-70–272 over the four days. He shared the runner-up spot at 16 under with Wofford's Walker Jones.
Fountain enrolled at UNC in January but did not play in the Tar Heels' three events before Covid-19 prematurely ended the collegiate season.
This summer, he was low amateur and placed second at the North Carolina Open, won the North Carolina Amateur, was second in stroke play (losing medalist honors after a playoff) at the North & South Amateur and now tied for second at the Carolinas Amateur.
